technology and zen of life

“A heisenbug (named after the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle) is a computer bug that disappears or alters its characteristics when an attempt is made to study it.”

What motivates us ?

Here is a nice insight from the guys at theRSA.org into what really motivates us. This video really got me thinking about how can you redefine rewards to get the most out your own self and others; a must watch.

Ah, I had a weak hunch that we discussed this before, I forgot your post in http://techmonks.net/3-laws-of-human-behavior.

We do not want to die = safety
We do not want to be alone = recognition
We are curious We seek Pleasure = happiness

Guess we got this one nailed down 😉

Great post, keep more of these coming! 🙂

BTW, I also believe that, apart from the three motivators, you can name quite a number of negative motivators that drive people just as strongly. Namely (no) recognition, (un)safety (or: being placed outside the group) and (un)happiness. And these might just as much, or sometimes even more so, motivate people.

In any way very cool that there are studies available proving a negative correlation between reward and quality of the outcome, managers of innovative companies should have a look into it. I think there are too much ‘old managers’ and too little CEO’s of the future in the right places if you ask me 😉
